    The Greenfire Campus in Ballard was awarded ASHRAE Technology awards at both the Chapter and Regional levels for its innovative building design in the areas of occupant comfort, indoor air quality, energy conservation and mechanical design. With conservation design elements such as natural ventilation, radiant panel cooling and heat recovery ventilators, radiant floor heating, photovoltaic panels, and architectural elements that maximize daylight, Greenfire’s apartment building is expected to use 42 percent less energy and the commercial building is expected to use 70 percent less energy than others of comparable size and type.

  • IMG_0794_webOn Saturday, April 4th, more than 200 middle school girls from the Peninsula School District participated in a Career and Pathway Expo (CAPE). The event aimed to engage and encourage female students to follow often male-dominated science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career paths. The day featured keynote speakers, a community- and teacher-led expo featuring 30 booths from science and math classes and finished with a community outreach portion with 20 hands-on workshops led by female industry leaders in non-traditional fields.

    The first annual BOMA South Puget Sound Trade Show and Technology Expo was held on April 8th in the historic Tacoma Armory. This inaugural event included more than 34 exhibitors educating attendees on services and technologies designed to reduce operating costs in commercial office buildings. During the trade show, more than 50 property managers, facility managers and building engineers participated in a class focusing on commercial office building optimization issues in the areas of HVAC systems, building automation, water and sewage systems, and lighting retrofits and upgrades. Keynote speaker Peter Meyer from Tacoma Power kicked off the class with a discussion on the optimization issues and strategies at Tacoma’s Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.
